The artist Denis John Wallman is working on a new painting of the Tornado, Peppercorn class A1 Steam Locomotive, which is being brought to life in Darlington.
The Tornado, which is being built in Darlington is not a restoration. Everything, apart from a couple of gauges and dials, have been made from scratch, using original engineering plans. Tornado is now the only existing example of the Peppercorn A1, one of the last big 3,000-horsepower express passenger locomotives built by the London and North-Eastern Railway in the 1940s and operated along the East Coast Main Line by British Rail until the 1960s.
The picture painted by Denis John Wallman depicts the Tornado Steam Locomotive on a run.
More information on this new painting will follow soon.
